Kym's Glass Mosaics
I began creating stained glass panels over a decade ago. As someone who has always been inspired by art and glass it seemed only natural to use glass while making my own art works. After spending a summer studying 17th C. Art & Architecture in Europe and writing extensively about Rembrandt and his influences on Van Gogh, I soon found myself making a mosaic replica of "Starry Night" on the coffee table. Knowing the history of mosaics I wanted to veer from traditional cut squares and use freeform pieces of glass for all of my works. Soon other 'paintings' in glass quickly began to follow.

The Process
Each piece of glass is broken into it's unique shape by using glass nippers. The curvy, irregular glass pieces are then placed into my design like pieces of a puzzle. All works are glued down with indoor/outdoor glass glues and then grouted. Grouts used are all outdoor strength and have included; glow in the dark, metallic glittered and many different colors to compliment each piece perfectly. Tiny sea shells can even be found at the bottom of beach scenes on the windows. Tables and many other works are sealed with an epoxy resin coat to ensure safety and easy clean up. I hope my mosaics bring joy and a sense of wonder and appreciation for the nature that surrounds us. I've always been told I viewed the world differently. I invite you to view the world through my eyes. Enjoy!
